Baltimore City Firefighter's Local #734

"IN UNION THERE IS STRENGTH"

PAC Committee

Trustee George Collins has offered to help us form an active Political Action Committee.  To be honest, many of our members have pretty negative thoughts when they think of the word "politician".  But there are a large number of politicians who respect us and support our issues.  The timing to regroup now is critical.  We have a bill before the City Council that will drastically reduce retired members pension increase under the Variable Benefit Provision.  Also, the State Legislature will convene very shortly.

WE NEED YOUR HELP, ACTIVE AND RETIRED!!!!!  Any member interested in representing the Local at political fundraisers or lobbying leaders at the City or State level, call us.

Below is a list of members of the House Economic Matters Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.  These are the two committees in which our presumption bill will be heard.  Early next week, we will be circulating the bill to these legislators (and others), asking that they sign on as co-sponsors.

While any legislator's support is helpful, the committee members are especially important because it shows (hopefully) that we have the support to get the bill out of the committee.  Please contact the committee members listed below who represent your jurisdiction ASAP, and ask them to co-sponsor the bill.  The bill is attached in draft form and you can feel free to send it to them.  If there are questions, they can ask us when we stop by or call us at 410-269-1618.

Finally, if you get a commitment from anyone, please let us know so that we can be sure to obtain their signature before the bill is introduced.

Thanks.
